Happy Thanksgiving

As far as American holidays go, Thanksgiving is about as good as it gets, not militarized or hyper-consumptive. Of course getting together and sharing food is as old a community tradition as this species has, cutting across all modern lines of separation, stretching back to the African savannas.
Not to say those first Asian immigrants who crossed to the Americas millennia ago shouldn't have thought long and hard about the reception given those first Europeans showing up only a handful of centuries ago. Horses, steel, and guns, not to mention germs, sealed the deal, the politics of technology. Some might argue about horses as technology, but just ask their first domesticators, the peoples of central Asia.
Nonetheless, the thought of coming together, breaking bread, and giving thanks has always been one of our most virtuous ones. Maybe never more so than here in the 21st century. Happy Thanksgiving.
